No Tribes

The car was painted but it was still just an old car wearing fresh black. Decent paint, nothing more. The proportions hadn't moved.

I started shopping.

The taillights went first. Raxiom, lights that imitated the 2015 Mustang shape on the 2007 body. Already older shell, newer face on the back. The car looked forward in time.

Then the headlights. Raxiom Retro. Smaller than stock, no glass cover up front, the lamps sitting bare like a classic Mustang from the sixties. People still ask me if I'll sell them. They don't make them anymore. I could probably get a thousand bucks for the set. I won't.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

The wheels came next. I never saw Volk TE37s on a 5th gen Mustang. I saw them on the 6th gen and they looked right. So I bought similar for the '07. Nobody had told me this combination existed because nobody had tried it. I didn't care.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

Here's the rule I follow on builds. There are no tribes.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

If I like something Japanese, I take it. If I like something European, I take it. If I like something American, I take it. The car doesn't care where its parts came from. The car cares about whether the parts work together visually and mechanically. The owner cares about what story the car tells when it sits in the driveway.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

JDM wheels on an American body. Australian coilovers underneath. Pedders X-Treme, dropped the car right where it needed to sit. Ford Racing exhaust headers and cams, the V8 finally sounding like a classic Mustang again instead of a modern catalyst tune. Supercharger on top, custom headers feeding it. Eight hundred horsepower when I was done.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

And the cherry. A GT350 hood from the modern Mustang lineup, retrofitted onto the 2007 GT body. Fiberglass, not the most reliable choice for a panel that opens and closes. I didn't care. The hood was beautiful. The hood made the car.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

Then I made a questionable move. Bought a ducktail-style front splitter. Five inches forward. Aggressive, weird, not from any catalog that made sense. I loved it. The community did not. Forums told me it was wrong. Comments told me it was wrong. I left it on.

Building for community approval is building somebody else's car. I was building mine.

🔥❤️😮💪🏆

The Mustang looked nothing like a stock 2007 GT. It also didn't look like any tuner copy. It looked like a Mustang I made.
